Revenue seize €295,000 cash at Dublin Airport

Revenue officers were granted a three month cash detention order by Judge Brian Smyth following a seizure yesterday of almost €295,000 at Dublin Airport.

A spokesperson from Revenue said:

“As a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers stopped a man prior to boarding a flight to Malaga, Spain.

“The cash is suspected to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity and is detained by Revenue in accordance with proceeds of crime legislation.

“A 52 year old man from the United Kingdom was questioned in relation to the seizure and investigations are ongoing.

“This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
