Local Coast Guards were alerted yesterday evening to an incident involving a sailing dinghy near Malahide.

At 18:40 Sunday evening Howth Coast Guard, along with Skerries Coast Guard and Coast Guard Rescue 116 were tasked to search the Malahide estuary area for an overdue sailing dingy.

A search team quickly located the two sailors along the south shore of the estuary with the dinghy in tow.

A spokesperson from Howth Coast Guard said:

“The team assisted in bringing the dinghy ashore, thanks to the members of public who provided a warm drink to the two sailors and safe storage for the dinghy.

“Please remember to bring an approved method of communication when you go out on the water.

“If you see someone in trouble on the Cliffs, Coast or Water, do not hesitate, dial 112 or 999 and ask for Coast Guard.”
