Local councillor Tom O Leary says he welcomes the news of plans for four Special Education Needs classrooms for Skerries Community College.

The Skerries Fine Gael councillor said many local families will also be happy to hear that their children’s educational needs will be met.

“I am happy that DDLETB have confirmed that provision will be made for four S.E.N special educational needs classrooms in the planned permanent extension to Skerries Community College,” he said.

“I have been lobbied by local families who like all local Skerries families would aspire to continue their childs educational needs at second level in their local town where their extended support network of friends and family are very important.

“So I am happy that four classrooms will be provided to meet that need.

“I await further details and clarity on the precise design brief for the permanent extension to Skerries Community College…how many extra classrooms are planned and will it be big enough to cater for demand for school places over 5-10 years in Skerries.

“In the meantime a temporary extension of three new classrooms and a new science room will be completed by March 2021 according to DDLETB Dublin Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board

“I intend to keep a close eye on this project which is of great concern to families in Skerries,” he said.
