The Minister for Justice has said that any additional Covid restrictions for Dublin could be in place by the weekend.

The National Public Health Emergency Team are meeting today and are expected to make recommendations to the Government.

Tomorrow the special Cabinet Covid-19 Sub-Committee will meet ahead of a final decision from the Government tomorrow evening.

Speaking earlier on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Minister McEntee said the figures for Dublin are increasing and show “a worrying trend” with the capital accounting for 55% of new cases announced yesterday.

Speaking last night, acting Chief Medical Officer Ronan Glynn said the situation has “deteriorated” in Dublin.

“Along with Dublin we have seen particularly concerning trends in Louth, Waterford and Donegal,” he said.

“It is now absolutely essential that people action public health advice and act as if they or those close to them are potentially infectious.”

Dr Glynn was speaking following the release of the latest figures which revealed that were 254 new cases of COVID-19 nationwide with 136 of those cases Dublin.

Three people died due to coronavirus related illness.
