Water restrictions in parts of Balbriggan tonight

Dublin People 13 Mar 2020
Water restrictions will be in place in Balbriggan tonight.

IRISH Water and Fingal County Council are advising customers in some parts of Balbriggan that an overnight water restriction is necessary tonight to allow reservoir levels to recover.

In order to protect the water levels in the reservoirs serving Balbriggan this water restriction is unavoidable.

The restriction will be in place from 10pm tonight, Friday, March 13 until 6am tomorrow, Saturday, March 14, and will impact customers in Craoibhin Park, Fancourt, Hampton Cove, Hamilton Estate, Castlelands, Pinewood and surrounding areas.

This action is being taken to ensure that there is an adequate quantity of water available to supply industries, schools, residences and commercial activities during normal business hours.

There are no further planned restrictions over the weekend. The water supply will be restored to customers as the network refills.

It can take a number of hours for the water to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.

It is expected that supply will return to customers between 6am and 8am as the water returns to the network.

Irish Water and Fingal County Council are also appealing to customers in all other parts of Balbriggan to conserve water.

They said simple water conservation efforts can have a significant impact on reducing demand on the supply allowing the reservoirs to refill more quickly.

Irish Water is appealing to customers to conserve water through actions such as, turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving which can save up to six litres of water per minute.

Keeping a jug of water in the fridge instead of running the cold tap can save 10 litres of water per day. For more tips on how to reduce your water usage please visit www.water.ie/conservation

Irish Water and Fingal County Council would like to thank customers for their efforts as work continues to ensure reservoirs recover.
