New life-saving equipment installed in Swords Manor 

SWORDS Community First Responders have launched a second public access defibrillator in the town. 

Should a person suffer a cardiac arrest/heart attack there is a defibrillator available 24/7 at the side of Graingers Inn at Swords Manor. Mark Grainger, owner of Graingers Manor Inn, has agreed to house the life-saving piece of equipment on his premises.  The AED/public access defibrillator is operational and linked to NAS system. It cost close to €2,000 for the AED/heated housing box, sign and fitting.  

The housed box will open when the person accesses the code which will be with the 999 centre as well as local shops and the pub at Swords Manor.

Zita Corkery, secretary of Swords CFR, said: “As a group we felt there was a need in the Swords Manor area for a public access defibrillator as our other public funded unit is at Tesco Airside beside the ATM which is some distance away. 

Other public access AEDs are at Fingal Council Offices on main street (Swords) on the railing and at the wall of St Columba's Parish Centre, Church Road (across from Church Of Ireland Church and Round Tower). 

“All units can be accessed by entering a code which is available when any member of the public dials 999. 

“We thank Mark Grainger for facilitating the housing of the public access defibrillator (which is covered by CCTV).” The unit, purchased at First Aid Systems and fitted by McKevitt Electrical Swords, was supplied through public fundraising by Swords CFR. 

“We hope to next install a public access AED at Rivervalley and have funds approved which will be part funded by a grant from Fingal County Council,” added Ms Corkery.
