Spike Cello Festival this weekend.

Festival of Youth Orchestras

The 25th Festival of Youth Orchestras, presented by the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras (IAYO), will take place on Saturday, February 8, in the National Concert Hall. To mark the special occasion IAYO will establish a Festival Orchestra that will have young musicians from across Ireland, in addition to featuring Youth Orchestras from around the country. Spike Cello Festival

Dublin's unique, charming and provocative alternative cello festival, Spike, is back for its fourth installation with three days of cello action from Friday February 7 to Sunday February 9.

Spike 2020 will include events from concerts to yoga cello to activities for younger people, in venues from Lost Lane to the Ark. Full programme and details online at www.spikecellofest.com.

Hansel and Gretel

One of the greatest operas about children, Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel is sweet and beguiling, combining childlike simplicity with heart-aching beauty.

Irish National Opera, Theatre Lovett and the Abbey Theatre collaborate on this compelling new three-act opera, reimagined in a mysterious modern setting. Don’t be fooled. This is a story of greed and starvation, mouth-wateringly sugar-coated. It’s being performed in the Abbey Theatre from February 8-15 nightly at 7.30pm.

Xuefei Yang at NCH

Join guitar sensation Xuefei Yang as she rings in the Year of the Rat in the company of musical friends, soprano Lynda Lee, flautist William Dowdall and violist Rosalind Ventris in the Shaw Room at the National Gallery of Ireland on Sunday, February 9 at 3pm. Ø – A Deep Listening Journey

Join musicians Margie Jean Lewis, Simon Cullen and Chloe McHugh on Saturday, February 8, in the Fumbally Stables, on an ambient deep listening journey, weaving together world instruments, electronics and restorative tones. There will be options to sit on a chair or lie down during the performance. Doors open at 6.30pm, performance 7pm sharp until 8.30pm.

Asian Flavours Walking Tour

The Chinese Year of the Rat is here and the Dublin Chinese New Year Festival finishes up on Monday, February 10. Take an Asian Flavours Walking Tour and enjoy some delicious authentic Asian cuisine at different stops, while guide Yang Zhang explores the integral role of food in the Chinese New Year celebrations and traces the history of the Chinese community in Ireland. Eclipsed

Presented by dlr Mill Theatre Eclipsed by Patricia Burke Brogan is an award winning play set in a Magdalene laundry during the 1960’s It is one of the first plays to tell the story of the Magdalene laundries and was inspired by Patricia’s own experience as a young novitiate. ANÚNA
