A NORTHSIDE soccer club was celebrating on the double recently when both their Under 11 and Under 12 teams won cup finals at the North Dublin Schoolboys’ League (NDSL) Finals in Coolock.

It was a great achievement for Baldoyle United FC as it was one of only two clubs to make two finals.

Niall Behan and Justin Reilly’s Under 11s were 2-1 winners over Ratoath Harps on the Saturday.

Dan Ring scored two goals for the North Dubliners in a fine team performance.

Baldoyle were forced to defend for long spells against a talented Ratoath Harps side but they restricted their opponents to long-range efforts.

Keeper Daniellus pulled off a couple of fine saves when called upon but it was late in the second half before Ratoath breached the Baldoyle back line.

The victory was even more special given that most of the team’s players have been with the club from four-years-of-age having come through the Saturday Baldoyle Junior Academy.

The following day Paval Tomoranov’s Under 12 side were involved in a thriller with Kinsealy Utd.

The teams finished level 5-5 after extra time with the Baldoyle boys winning on penalties thanks to two top class saves from ‘keeper Cole Jones.

That set it up for Hassan Shawqi to coolly slot home the winner for Baldoyle Utd and spark the celebrations.
