Can you solve Joey’s mystery?

The wooden model of the original Joey’s school building.

THE Fairview Conference of St Vincent De Paul recently received a bequest from the estate of the late H.B. ‘Brian’ Dennis who attended St Joseph’s CBS (Joey’s) in the 1940s.

The bequest is a beautiful wooden model of the original Joey’s building and the Conference intends to auction this work of art to raise funds to support its work in the Fairview-Marino-Ballybough area.

On the base of the model is a name ‘L. Byrne’, presumably the artist, and the date 1967, probably the year the work was finished. It is made entirely of matchsticks and ice-pop sticks.

The Conference is trying to find out more about the artist, possibly a pupil at the school who lived in the area during the ‘60s.

It believes any information received will add to the value of the model, which the Conference intends to auction in October.

If anyone has any information about L. Byrne, please contact the Conference (fairviewsvp@gmail.com) or call the President, Joe Gantly, on 087-4158809.

St Joseph’s CBS, founded in 1888,  is one of the most famous schools on the Northside.

In 2013, the school celebrated its 125th anniversary and published a book, detailing its history, to mark the special occasion.
