FINGAL County Council has launched a competition which aims to make the region a cleaner place to live.

The 2018 Cleaner Communities Awards reward residential and business areas for their efforts in maintaining a litter-free, well presented and environmentally friendly community or place of business.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Mary McCamley, said: “The Cleaner Community Awards are a fantastic opportunity to not only recognise the huge efforts made by community groups but to encourage the continued efforts of residents and community groups to keep the county clean, safe and litter free.”

Fingal County Council chief executive, Paul Reid, said he was delighted to see the contribution made by community groups to the environmental welfare of Fingal being acknowledged.

“Our operations department works closely with these groups to ensure the towns and villages across Fingal are kept clean and tidy so their work is hugely valued,” he said.

The council is now inviting entries for this year’s awards and the closing date for receipt of applications is 4.30pm on Friday, June 29.
