Major jobs boost for the Northside

THE Northside received a major jobs boost last week when Dublin Aerospace announced it is to create 150 new full-time positions.  

The aircraft maintenance provider, supported by Enterprise Ireland, will be providing the jobs over the next three years.  

The significant expansion of the workforce is part of the company’s strategy to double its turnover by 2023.

Conor McCarthy, executive chairman of Dublin Aerospace, said: “Since our start-up in 2009 with just 18 staff, our annual turnover has risen from €7 million to €46 million last year and we have been profitable since our second year in operation.

“Last year saw further increases in turnover for all three business units: Aircraft Overhaul, Landing Gear and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Services. 

“This solid underlying business performance has given us the confidence to create another 150 full-time, permanent engineering and support roles in our Dublin operation.”

“Their renowned Aviation Apprenticeship & Trainee programmes ensure that they are delivering the highest standards to their customers, some of whom are the biggest airlines and aircraft leasing companies in the world.” 

Michael Tyrrell, Dublin Aerospace chief executive, said: “This quarter we have just hired the first 48 of 150 additional team members with a variety of skill sets including Aircraft Engineers, Avionics Technicians, Structures & Composite Technicians, Painters and Aircraft Operatives. 

“Seventeen of these positions were taken up by graduates of the Dublin Aerospace Apprenticeship & Trainee Programmes. 

“We attribute our success to our dedicated and flexible teams of professionals.”

Dublin Fingal TD Alan Farrell (FG) welcomed the announcement.

“The creation of these 150 new jobs is great news for the local community in Dublin Fingal, particularly as Dublin Airport, and airport-related businesses are some of the largest employers in the north county,” he said.

Julie Sinnamon, Enterprise Ireland chief executive, said Dublin Aerospace is a very important service provider to the global aviation industry. 

“Having its base at Dublin Airport is of critical importance, servicing its international client base and delivering high value jobs to Ireland,” said Ms Sinnamon.
