A JUDGE’S review of a dossier of evidence compiled by Stardust campaigners has been referred to the Office of the Attorney General, the Department of Justice has confirmed.
Last week, Judge Pat McCartan submitted his completed report to the Minister for Justice, Charlie Flanagan. His review of the evidence presented by Stardust families and their experts will determine whether there is merit in establishing an Inquiry of Investigation into the 1981 nightclub fire, which claimed the lives of 48 young people and injured more than 200.
In response to correspondence from the Stardust Victims’ Committee’s solicitor, the Department of Justice confirmed that Judge McCartan had formally submitted his report on October 17.
“The report is under consideration at present and has been sent to the Office of the Attorney General for advices,” it reads. “The Minister intends to bring the report to Cabinet following receipt of those advices, following which he will lay the report before the Houses of the Oireachtas and publication will following thereafter.”
