Tesco colleagues Shane Connolly and Fatou Nyang get into the festive spirit to launch Tesco Ireland’s Christmas recruitment drive

Tesco Ireland has today launched its 2026 festive recruitment drive, with 340 temporary roles available across its stores in Dublin as the retailer prepares for the busy Christmas shopping period.

The Dublin roles form part of 1,725 festive jobs being created nationwide, an increase of more than 600 compared with last Christmas.

The increase reflects the expansion of Tesco’s store network and online operations across Ireland this year.

The recruitment drive will create additional opportunities for people across the country looking to gain experience in retail or get some extra income over the Christmas period.

These roles will support the existing 13,500 permanent colleagues in Tesco stores, with those colleagues working less than full-time hours having the opportunity of availing of additional hours, helping Tesco provide customers with a great shopping experience at one of the busiest times of the year.

Applications are now open, with successful applicants joining Tesco across three start dates – 2 November, 9 November and 16 November until the end of December

Tesco is looking for helpful and friendly people to support its store teams and customers throughout the festive season.

A range of shifts will be available across early mornings, daytime and evenings, providing flexibility for applicants looking to fit work around other commitments.

Along with competitive terms and conditions, those joining Tesco will have access to the retailer’s broader colleague reward and benefits package from day one, including:

  • Virtual GP Service: Free, confidential access to an online GP via video consultations and online prescriptions. Family members living at the same address can also avail of this service at a reduced cost.
  • Complimentary food: Free food offerings in colleague rooms at all stores.
  • Wellbeing First Support: Tesco’s Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provides 24/7 emotional support, counselling and access to wellbeing services for colleagues and their families.

Maurice Kelly, People Director at Tesco Ireland, said, “Christmas is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year in our stores, and we’re delighted to be creating 1,725 festive roles across the country this year, an increase of over 600 on last Christmas.

“Whether people are looking for additional hours over Christmas, returning to work or interested in trying retail for the first time, we’d encourage people to apply and join us for the festive season.

“These roles will help us support customers during the busy festive period while creating valuable employment opportunities in communities across Ireland.”

Positions are available nationwide, and Tesco encourages interested candidates to apply online as soon as possible. After Christmas, temporary colleagues will have the opportunity to apply for available permanent roles in existing stores or new Tesco locations planned for the coming year.
