Making waves at Red Rock
Dublin People 30 Jan 2015A NORTHSIDE actress is making waves in Ireland’s newest soap.

Talented Roisin O’Donovan, who was raised in Malahide, is one of the stars of TV3’s brand new series Red Rock.
RóisÃn is a graduate of the Screen Acting Programme at The Factory, trained at Pace University, New York, and holds a first-class honours degree in Drama, Theatre Studies and English from University College Cork.
Her father is a Cork man while her mother is from Friesland in the Netherlands, and she loves the fact that she was raised with two different cultures in her home.
Before turning her hand to acting, Roisin was studying for a degree in Event Management but dropped out to pursue her dream career. Her parents were supportive of her choice and were even in the audience for her first ever professional acting gig – which saw her naked on stage.
Despite being a relatively new face to the industry, Roisin has been involved in an array of recent work including roles in Waking the Witch (2015), Love, Rosie (2014), Get Up and Go (2014) and Deaf Joe’s music video
‘For Each And Every One Of Them’.
She is also currently a member of Bow Street Actor’s Studio where she trained for screen under the mentorship of Kirsten Sheridan, Lance Daly, Shimmy Marcus, John Carney and Maureen Hughes.
However, for the moment, the new soap is Roisin’s focus and she loves playing the character of Niamh Reid, who has just moved back to Red Rock to help her father Liam run the Neptune Café.
Speaking about her character Niamh, Roisin tells Northside People:
“Niamh is great. She’s really fun to play because she has this wonderful mix of stubborn smart sarcasm balanced with a playful heart of gold.
“She’s just given up everything to get the Neptune Café up and running to help support her family whom she secretly adores.
?
Playing Niamh isn’t the only thing that Roisin is enjoying while working on the show. She is getting on extremely well with all of the cast and crew but has yet to find out any inside gossip.
“They’re all lovely,
? she says.
“Really so so lovely. If we got on any better I’d be freaked out by it. I’m always trying to scope out the
‘goss’ myself, alas no luck so far. If you hear anything juicy let me know.
?
She describes her character as
“sugar and spice
? and says that although Niamh is seriously fun to play, it is also a challenging role.
“It’s funny because I’m used to working in film, rather than TV, where you know the entire arc of the character from the first read of the script, whereas now even though I feel like I know Niamh so well and am very protective of her, I’m constantly learning more about her every time I’m handed a new batch of episodes,
? she adds.
“It makes her really unpredictable which is a little nerve-wracking.
