Are we ready to forgive Fianna Fail?

Dublin People 16 Mar 2013

RECENT polls suggest that Fianna Fail are on the comeback trail, despite the kicking they got in the last general election. Leader Micheal Martin has been working hard to instill new blood into a party that has been largely blamed for the extent of the economic downturn in Ireland.

We asked our Facebook followers if they were now ready to forgive Fianna Fail. Here’s a selection of their comments.

Sheelagh Puryer: No Way!

Mary O’Reilly: We don’t have any choice, do we? There are only the two Fianna Fail and Fine Gael – and both [are] rotten, so what do you suggest?

Dermot Murphy: All spin. Nobody in their right mind would vote for any of them. DDI (Direct Democracy Ireland) all the way for a change of direction.

Ashling Byrne: You joking? Look at the state the country is in. Are you mad or what?

Lily Chamberlain: Keep them out. I have never voted for them and never will. For God’s sake, both these parties have ruined the country. You would have to be a gobshite to vote for them again.

Joe Andrews: I think people are realising they were a big fish in a small pond and had no control really about what was about to happen to the world economy. This lot in right now are even worse!

Dolores Barry Judge: You have got to be joking!

Francis Stokes: It will take many years for the country to forgive what happened. Maybe a new Generation of Fianna Fail is needed. How can they expect people to react when the country was brought to its knees because of the policies pursued by the last and previous Fianna Fail administrations? They will have a long wait to gain the confidence of the electorate. However, there are some great TDs in the party. It needs a clean sweep from the old ways.

Patricia McGregor Carroll: So right, Francis. Take the good TDs out of each party and maybe we will get a party that knows how to run the country in a decent way.

Pat Coleman: No, they got us into this mess and now sit back and criticise those trying to sort it out.

Catherine Wright: Have we the Irish lost the plot altogether, even thinking of voting Fianna Fail back in? Very short memory, people.

Linda Mason: None of the so-called parties should ever be re-elected again. A bunch of timewasters and out to get what is good for them, not for this little country. There’s too many chiefs and not enough Indians in the Dail. We don’t need that many people to run our country. They fight with each other like school kids in a yard, shouting at each other. They should be working together to sort out the mess THEY made and not be acting like kids.
