The 2019 LONGINES FEI Jumping Nations Cup of Ireland at the Stena Line UKIE Dublin Horse Show takes place from Wednesday August 7 to Sunday August 11. Filled with exciting equestrian competitions, great fun, good food, fancy drinks, and a little dressing up, the Dublin Horse Show is an amazing experience and one of the best days out of the summer. Playstival

Returning to Airfield Estate Dundrum for its second year on August 10 and 11, Playstival is a festival of play and music for kids and their parents.

It’s dedicated to play and discovery, fun and excitement, great food and live music and, most of all, family time together.

This unique event allows kids and all the older people in their lives to get away from mobile phones, games consoles and screens for a day filled of genuine feel good fun and family togetherness.

Wine & Cheese Festival

What started out as a simple Eatyard & Bodytonic idea in 2018, The Wine & Cheese Festival is now happening from August 8-11 in the stunning Iveagh Gardens.

This is a festival for all wine & cheese fans with a stellar selection of boutique wine and cheese vendors selling stuff you’ll want to drink and buy. Tickets available from www.wine-n-cheese.com.

South Dublin Antiques & Vintage Fair

On Sunday, August 11, the regular South Dublin Antiques & Vintage Fair will take place the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire, from 11am until 6pm.

With 40 traders from the UK and Ireland taking part, the fair will include thousands of items, from rare books, coins and other collectables, to antique and vintage jewellery, silver, a large selection of antique and vintage furniture and countless other items for the home, along with a plethora of oddities and curios from a bygone time.

Admission to the fair is €3.50 per person, or €2.50 with the voucher in this week’s Southside People. Entry is free for Under 15s when accompanied by a supervising adult.

The Big Brick Experience

The Big Brick Experience is happening at the fabulous Farmleigh House in Dublin. The Exhibition showcases the best of Construction toys, 3D Puzzles and Football Stadium replicas.

New sets are added to the collection for this year and James Bond fans will be excited to see 007’s famous Aston Martin DB5. The phenomenal Bugatti Chiron hypercar has also been added to The Big Brick collection, and it’s a 1:8 scale model with a working W16 engine and gearbox.

The Big Brick Experience is on display until September 1 at the Cow Shed Gallery, Farmleigh House & Estate, Phoenix Park, Dublin.

Bubble Rush in Malahide 

Bubble Rush, a fun run with a difference, is taking place at Malahide Castle on Sunday, August 11 from 10am to 1pm (the run starts at 11am).   

It starts in a sea of foam, and along the course are four bubble stations pumping out masses of coloured bubbles.  

It’s not a race, the event isn’t timed and there’s no pressure to run. The two-lap course is pushchair and wheelchair-friendly, so everyone in the family can take part.

Opera In The Open 

Fancy an idyllic picnic in the park with homegrown operatic voices or a work lunch out of a stuffy office? 

Opera In The Open is taking place every Thursday in August between 1pm and 2pm in the Amphitheatre, Wood Quay and the colourful and dramatic performances are free to attend.  Keep up to date with the season on the Opera in the Open Facebook page.

The Bodyguard musical 

The international, award-winning smash hit musical based on the blockbuster film, ‘The Bodyguard’, is returning to Dublin. 

The show, starring Alexandra Burke, is taking place at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre from August 7-17.   

Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge – what they don’t expect is to fall in love.

Alexandra Burke will perform the role of ‘Rachel Marron’ at evening performances only. Please check before booking.
