Fianna Fáil Senator Mary White has confirmed that new flood defences will be put in place along the Little Dargle River in Loreto Park by the autumn.

“I personally witnessed the devastating effects of the flooding on Nutgrove Avenue last year,

? the Senator said.

“My heart went out to the local business owners and residents who were soul-destroyed by the severe damage caused to their homes and companies.

“I have been engaged in ongoing communication with the officials of the Water and Drainage Department of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to ensure that this devastation does not happen again and I am delighted to say that new flood alleviation measures are now going to tender as a matter of priority.

“An elaborate new screen that is substantially bigger than what is currently in place will be positioned at the culvert in Loreto Park, preventing the culvert from being blocked by any future build-up of debris.

The Senator added:

“Every angle has been covered by the council and the works are due to be completed by the autumn.
