A NORTHSIDE boy was the envy of thousands of soccer-mad kids recently when he got to lead out his favourite team in an English Premiership fixture.

Fionn Henry, from the Warren, Malahide, was the official mascot for Manchester City’s home clash with Hull City at the Etihad Stadium, the day before his ninth birthday.

Fionn, who plays for Malahide United’s Under 9 team, walked onto the pitch with Manchester City’s title winning captain Vincent Kompany.

Fionn’s father, Mark, said his delighted son visited the dressing room before the game and got to meet all the team who signed his Manchester City jersey.

He also shook hands with the referee and Hull City players before getting to take a shot at Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart on the pitch and scoring!

Ironically, Fionn discovered that he had a connection with one of the Hull City players – Irish international Robbie Brady.

Brady is from Baldoyle and his cousins went to Pope John Paul II primary school in Malahide where Fionn is currently in third class.

“Manchester City is Fionn’s favourite team, and Sergio Aguero is his favourite player,

? said Mark.

“He was picked (for mascot) by the chief executive of Man City after I wrote to him to say that we were coming over to see our first game in the Etihad Stadium.

“It was Fionn’s birthday the next day and I wrote that it would be great if they could arrange a treat for him. They sure delivered!

On the day, City, whose anthem is

‘Blue Moon’, were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw and had to rely on a superb late James Milner strike to salvage a point.
