Portmarnock Athletics Club reflects on excellent year

PORTMARNOCK Athletic Club have every reason to look forward to 2015 after enjoying a fantastic year at track & field, cross-country and indoor arena events.

The number of athletes who participated in events was double that of 2013. Performances standing out for mention include:
?¢ Ronan Patterson made it to the nationals to run in the 800m.
?¢ The Boys’ Under 13 relay team (Conor Archer, Ronan Patterson, Mark Morris, Michael Farrelly and Alex Cush) won gold in the National Championship 4x100m relay.
?¢ Grace McKeever came third in the Hurdles
?¢ Michael Farrelly, although seriously injured, finishing 2nd in the sprints at national level.
The following won medals at Dublin level:
?¢ Shane Archer, Jack O’Connell, Charlie McKeever, Rhian Gregan and Alex Cush.
The following relay teams also won medals:
?¢ Under 10 – Joshua Case, Harry Byrne, Cathal Tuite, Charlie McKeever and Callum Marshall
?¢ Under 11 – Shane Archer, Jack O’Connell, Alex Dunne and Joshua Kelly
?¢ Under 12 – Joshua Kelly, Shane Archer, Harry Collier, Conal McAllister
There were also some great performances during the track and field season including:
?¢ Michael Farrelly won the under 13 80m at Dublin Championships, and went on win gold at the
National Championships in Tullamore
?¢ Grace McKeever won a bronze medal in both the Dublin Indoors and Dublin Track & Field for Hurdles
?¢ The Boys’ Under 11 team performed brilliantly to come 3rd in Tuallmore – Joshua Kelly, Shane Archer, Shane Patterson, Alex Dunne and Jack O’Connell.
Understandably picking the club’s Athletes of the Year was difficult and the winners were announced as:
?¢ 2014 Male Athlete of the Year – Jack O’Connell
?¢ 2014 Female Athlete of the Year – Grace McKeever
?¢ 2014 Team Athletes of the Year – Under 13 Boys -4x100m relay National Champions (Conor Archer, Mark Morris, Ronan Patterson, Michael Farrelly and Alex Cush).
