FIANNA Fáil has selected its candidate to contest the next general election in the Dublin Fingal constituency.

Senator Darragh O’Brien was selected at a well-attended selection convention in the Carnegie Court Hotel, Swords.

The constituency, formerly known as Dublin North, will be a five-seater next time round.
When asked by Northside People whether there was a possibility that another candidate could be added to the ticket at a later stage, a spokeswoman for the Fianna Fail press office said:

“Issues pertaining to candidate strategy are dealt with by the National Constituencies Committee, which has decided at this stage to adopt a one candidate strategy for Dublin Fingal.

Senator O’Brien will be hoping to reclaim the seat he lost at the last general election in 2011 when his party was annihilated at the polls, especially across Dublin.
Michael Kennedy, another Fianna Fáil TD in the constituency, also lost his seat on that occasion.

Both had been elected to the Dail for the first time in the 2007 General Election.
Following his selection, Senator O’Brien said the Fianna Fáil party he wants to represent in Dáil Ã?ireann

“understands what people are going through

?.

“More importantly, we are working to develop a plan to begin to make things better,

? he stated.

“Our manifesto will be one that learns from the past – and leads the way to a better and fairer future for all.

“We will not be making promises we cannot deliver but we will be putting forward an alternative vision for the future of this country.

Senator O’Brien also vowed to continue to beat the drum for Metro North.

“It is the single most important infrastructural project in this community,

? he added.

“The Government may want to derail it, but I will continue to fight for it.
