Christina meets local students
Dublin People 10 Oct 2014
HUMANITARIAN Christina Noble recently visited the Northside for a private screening of her film about her life and work, and also met students from a local school.
After viewing the film
‘Noble’, Christina spoke to 150 students from Coláiste Dhúlaigh Post Primary School, Coolock, their parents, special needs assistants, teachers and the principal.
The students were blown away by the film and by Christina herself who spoke passionately about the importance of education for young people, including the value of university education for disadvantaged students.
She also spoke about the devastation caused by bullying and drugs, children’s rights and violations of those rights.
Christina is no stranger to Colaiste Dhulaigh having also visited in 2009 and 2010. Around that time the school was granted funds from the Department of Foreign Affairs, facilitated by Worldwise, allowing students to link with the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation (CNCF).
Students learnt a great deal about the culture, language, food and history of Vietnam, and about Worldwise themes such as the environment and human rights across the curriculum.
In 2009 and 2011 students also visited the CNCF in Vietnam with teachers June Coghlan and Ciarán McMillan.
Each year since 2002, the Transition Year students at Coláiste Dhúlaigh read Christina’s autobiography
‘Bridge Across My Sorrows’ and fundraise in aid of CNCF as part of a Social Justice Programme.
