Historic double for Rush Cricket Club

RUSH Cricket Club is celebrating an incredible season at youth level following major successes in regional and national competitions.

The club’s Under 11 and Under 13 boys are Leinster and All Ireland champions following heroic performances throughout the country.

The Under 11s recorded a nail-biting victory over favourites YMCA in the Leinster Final. They then took on Eglinton (near Derry) in the All-Ireland Final, and in a very one-sided affair, completely dominated from the outset to romp to victory by nine wickets.

The Under 13s had an equally thrilling last ball victory over the much acclaimed YMCA in the Leinster Final and followed this with a solid six wicket away victory over Killyclooney (near Derry).

They defeated Waringstown (near Banbridge) away from home in the All-Ireland Final. The match was played in front of a very large crowd and Cricket Ireland officials were amazed at the level of travelling support from Rush.

This All Ireland double is historic for Rush Cricket Club and 2014 is by far its most successful year at youth level.

Meanwhile, the club’s Under 17 girls play in a combined side with Malahide and are Leinster Under 17 Cup winners this season.

The Leprechaun Cup competition is played between 40 primary schools in Leinster and was won this year by St Catherine’s National School in Rush.

Much of the club’s success this year can be attributed to the introduction of a Cricket Academy which is run by professional coaches to nurture and develop the club’s best young players.

Record numbers of boys and girls have represented Leinster and Ireland this season and the future looks very bright for Rush Cricket Club.
