Sickening!
Dublin People 09 Aug 2014
A PROPOSAL by the animal welfare group PETA to place a
“thought provoking new billboard
? in Dublin that shows a severed human leg on a plate has been described as truly horrific.
The controversial group stated last week that it was negotiating with local advertisers to place the billboard in the city.
In statement PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) said that the billboard
“comes as gardai investigate the discovery of human body parts, including a leg, at the Thorntons Recycling plant in west Dublin
?.
“While people are understandably horrified by the idea of finding dismembered human remains, PETA is hoping that some good might come from pointing out that murder – no matter the victim – is wrong,
? the statement reads.
“The group aims to demonstrate that everyone is made of the same flesh, blood, bone and emotions and that every living being deserves respect.
“Cows, chickens and pigs also value their lives. PETA points out that eating meat is eating a corpse.
?
The statement adds:
“We are challenging people to look into their souls and consider embracing a truly non-violent vegan diet.
?
A PETA spokesperson said:
“Maybe this tragedy will cause people to think about where their meat comes from every time they sit down to eat.
?
However, after viewing a copy of the proposed PETA ad, Cllr Daithi de Roiste (FF), who represents Ballyfermot/Drimnagh, said:
“I am truly horrified to learn of PETA’s proposed billboard campaign that uses the horrible discovery of human remains for their own publicity.
“Whilst every organisation is entitled to raise awareness for whatever aims they may have, the deliberate use of human remains in an advertisement, in the wake of the Thorntons discovery, is sickening and disgusting.
?
He added:
“PETA have shown blatant insensitivity to the situation in west Dublin. A Garda investigation is currently underway to establish what has occurred and for PETA to try and make light of this investigation is foolish, unwise and wrong.
“The severed remains that were found belong to a human being. That person will currently have family, friends and loved ones worried about them and I would call on PETA to stop trying to gain publicity out of such a sickening situation.
?
He added:
“They should be ashamed of themselves, looking to use such a grim scenario for their own publicity needs.
?
When asked if they intended to go ahead with the billboard ad considering the councillor’s objections, a spokesperson told Southside People:
“Yes we do.
“We hope that one horror can help prevent another, the slaughter of other individuals every day for nothing more than a fleeting taste, and that this billboard will get people to think about the value of all life.
“No one can bring back the human victim whose body parts were so callously disposed of like bits or rubbish, but we all have the power to prevent more animal victims from being treated in the same way, simply by choosing vegan meals.
?
He added:
“To ignore the suffering that other sentient individuals endure at our own hand is the height of insensitivity.
