Airport kids in book battle
Dublin People 06 Jun 2014
OVER 170 fifth-class pupils from five schools in the Fingal region gathered at Dublin Airport recently for the final event in The Battle of the Book reading programme.
A team from each school took part in a quiz based on the featured book
‘Stormclouds’ by Brian Gallagher.
The Battle of the Book is a reading programme designed to encourage primary pupils to read through a multi-disciplinary interactive approach that includes drama, art and creative writing.
The programme, which is sponsored by the DAA and organised by Fingal Libraries, also involves an element of competition between the participating schools and their local library.
This year’s quiz, held in Area 14 Terminal 1, was won for the second year in succession by the team from Rush National School.
They beat off stiff competition from Oliver Plunketts, Malahide; St Mologas, Balbriggan; St Colmcilles, Swords; and St Patricks, Corduff.
Prizes were presented by the author, Brian Gallagher, Yvonne O’Brien, Fingal Senior Executive Librarian and Maura Cassidy, Dublin Airport Community Affairs Manager.
MC for the day was RTE’s
‘Reuben The Entertainer’ who kept the kids happy and got the noise level to fever pitch by the time the winners were announced.
Maura Cassidy described the event as
“a great success
? and said Dublin Airport looked forward to being involved in the programme again next year.
