Time for a change?

Time for a change?

Labour TD Tommy Broughan recently introduced his Brighter Evenings Bill which proposes putting the clock forward by one hour all year round. Here’s a selection of some of the Facebook feedback we received.

Mandy Daly: What a great idea. A lot of OAPs hate the long, dark evenings, especially in the winter months as some are living alone. It would make a great change to people’s lives, I think.

Dolores Barry Judge: Best idea . . . makes us the same time as other European countries.

Darach Garland: Great idea. Longer hours for the kids to play with after school matches etc in daylight. Big savings (as proved during the Second World War) on electricity. UK also looking at the same idea. We would end up the same time as Europe.

Stephen O’Sullivan: I don’t want to lose an hour out of my life – every minute is precious to me. Leave it alone.

Frances Mansfield: Not such a good idea unless Great Britain follows suit. Years ago we were on a different time zone called Dublin Mean Time, which was a 20 minutes difference, and it played havoc with the trains and communications network.

Tara Dunne: God, no.

Annemarie McNally Rice: Just don’t change it over the wintertime!
