A TEAM of Ireland’s leading political ladies has issued a call to Dublin women of all ages to don their running or walking shoes and show their support for Ireland’s only children’s hospice, LauraLynn.

Female members of Ireland’s political landscape including Southside TD Mary Mitchell O’Connor and Senators Mary Moran, Fidelma Healy-Eames, Catherine Noone, Jillian van Turnhout and Kathryn Reilly will all take part in the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon on the Bank Holiday Monday, June 3 in aid of LauraLynn Children’s Hospice.

The LauraLynn House, which opened its doors in September 2011 at the Children’s Sunshine Home in Leopardstown, is hoping to surpass the huge success of last year’s event when over 700 women signed up to take on the 10k challenge and helped to raise more than e107,000.

The funds raised through this year’s Mini Marathon will be used to support the annual running costs of LauraLynn House, which amount to e2.4 million.

Urging women to sign up for the LauraLynn Team, Deputy Mitchell O’Connor (FG) said:

“The wonderful thing about the Mini Marathon is that anyone can take part and you really can help to make a difference.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re not a runner or a jogger, you can sign up to walk, skip or hop the route with your friends and colleagues in aid of a great cause. So come on ladies, rally the troops and get moving for LauraLynn.

Philomena Dunne, the CEO of LauraLynn, added:

“We were overwhelmed by the response and support we received last year from mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, wives and girlfriends who chose to participate in the Mini Marathon for LauraLynn.

“There are many worthy causes to support so thank you to everyone who chose to help us. We’re currently looking after more than 145 children and their families, and every step the LauraLynn Mini Marathon Team take helps us to care for more and more families.

All those who sign up to the LauraLynn Mini Marathon team will receive a T-shirt and invite to the Shelbourne Hotel for a fun pre-marathon warm up and post event refreshments. There will also be prizes for the individuals and corporate teams that raise the most money.

Anybody who would like to support LauraLynn can contact 01-2893151, email Amanda@lauralynn.ie or sign up at www.lauralynn.ie
