Unique night to remember legendary restaurant

A TRIBUTE to one of Dublin’s most famous restaurants is taking place on Thursday, October 4, in the Shelbourne Hotel.

The CEO of the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, Jonathan Irwin, author Alison Maxwell and renowned opera singer, Dr Veronica Dunne, launched

‘A Tribute to Jammet’s of Dublin’ earlier this month.

The event is a charity fundraising do in aid of the foundation and it promises to be a fantastic evening of exquisite food, delightful entertainment and enlightening stories from the times the restaurant was open.

Jammet’s was the most famous French restaurant in Dublin and it its heyday saw many international stars come together with Irish literati to enjoy the excellent cuisine and atmosphere of the day.

Stars who enjoyed the Jammet’s experience include Elizabeth Taylor, Laurel and Hardy, Cary Grant, Edith Piaf and John Lennon, among many others.

The restaurant closed its doors in 1967 but to this day it holds a very special place in the culinary and social history of the city.

The unique fundraising event next week, which was the brainchild of Ireland’s highly respected opera singer, Dr Veronica Dunne, will be a musical tribute together with a Jammet’s style ‘gala dinner’ in the Shelbourne Hotel.

The evening will be hosted by Senator David Norris with musical interludes by much acclaimed vocalists Ryan Morgan, Suzanne Murphy and Dr Dunne herself.

The format for the evening includes a champagne reception, a gala four course dinner, an auction conducted by Philip Myerscough and the musical programme for the night.

A host of celebrities and interesting personalities will be attending this trip down memory lane, including the author of the book,

‘Jammet’s’, Alison Maxwell, and Alan Stoner, a waiter from the famous eatery who is returning to Dublin from America specifically for the event.
