Big day out marks new beginning in Stillorgan

A FUN-FILLED

‘Big Day Out’ marked the recent renaming of Stillorgan Shopping Centre to Stillorgan Village, and a new beginning for the historic retail hotspot.

Treasury Holdings, owners of freshly branded Stillorgan Village, hosted the family fun day on Saturday, September 15, which saw shoppers enjoy kart rides, carousels, bouncing castles, race cars, face painting and balloon modelling.

The World Street Performance Champions also performed for shoppers whilst DJ Daragh O’Dea gave out spot prizes.

Central manager of Stillorgan Village, Ray Coary, described the event as a big success.

“Last Saturday’s ‘Big Day Out’ celebrated the recent upgrade of Stillorgan Village and also marks the renaming of Ireland’s oldest shopping centre,

? he said.

“Stillorgan Village has provided a quality shopping experience for the local community for 46 years. We renamed the Stillorgan Shopping Centre as Stillorgan Village to reflect its friendly neighbourhood atmosphere at the heart of the community.

“Over e3 million worth of refurbishment works has been completed in shops throughout the centre. The refurbishment has modernised Stillorgan Village whilst maintaining its family friendly environment, thus enhancing the overall shopping experience for the community.

Stillorgan Village is now virtually fully occupied, with only one 1,000 square foot unit available, and management are now looking to create additional space to meet demand.

Niall Kavanagh, Director of Property at Treasury Holdings, said the fundamentals that have attracted the loyal customer base to Stillorgan over the years are still in place, adding that the new retail stores mean that footfall in the centre has increased by six per cent.

“This increase is encouraging to see at a time when the retail sector is suffering,

? he continued.

“It’s encouraging to see this kind of positive response to the various initiatives that Treasury Holdings, as managers of the centre, have been promoting. We believe Stillorgan’s fresh new look will help the centre go from strength to strength in the short term.

In the past 12 months nine new brands have been added to Stillorgan Village. They include: Benetton; Dealz; Donnybrook Fair; Ecco; O’Farrell School & Sports; Dove; Kilkenny; and Connect Hearing. A Starbucks is due to open in October and will create 15 new jobs.

The centre was originally built by Cramptons and designed by architect John Costello. It was inspired by his visits to America, and intended to provide maximum convenience and a vibrant new retail option for the residents of South Dublin.
