Charity says toner TD will consider recycle request

CHILDREN’S charity, the Jack & Jill Foundation, has welcomed Aengus O Snodaigh’s
positive response to their request for spent toner cartridges.

The charity, which provides care
and support for children with severe neurological development issues, said the
Southside Sinn Fein TD told them he would check the recycling policy of the
Oireachtas.

It was revealed last week that Deputy O’Snodaigh
ordered some

?¬50,000 worth of printer ink cartridges from the Oireachtas over a
period of just two years.

It came to light on foot of a Freedom of Information
request that showed how Deputy O Snodaigh used over 400 toner cartridges at
taxpayers’ expense in 2007 and 2008.

Deputy O Snodaigh told the RTE Radio 1 Morning Ireland
show last week that the leaflets he printed were used for informing his constituents.

“We would have been known as the most prolific
leafleters in the country within the party,

? he said.

“The party has a history
of making sure that constituents around the country are informed.

Jonathan Irwin, the CEO and founder of the Jack &
Jill Children’s Foundation, said Deputy Ã? Snodaigh had responded positively to
his request for the used printer cartridges last week.

He had written to the Sinn Fein TD asking him to send
any spent printer cartridges to the charity, which turns them into cash for
home nursing care for the 286 sick children in its care.

The Jack & Jill Foundation recycles a whole range
of material, including old mobile phones and printer cartridges to raise money.

Deputy O’Snodaigh did not respond to calls from
Southside People last week.
