How I met Mr Right at Wright’s

THE RIGHT CHOICE: Robin and Liz Kiely won the Wright’s Café Bar competition.

For as long as it’s been there, Wright’s Café Bar has
been like a second home to my husband and I even though we didn’t even know
each other for the first three years it was open.

Christmas is always one of the best times of year to
hit Wright’s and it was December 18, 2004, a week before the big day that I
first met my future husband, Robin.

It was another busy night as usual, but we managed to
catch eyes across the bar upstairs and he eventually wandered over with a
Smirnoff Ice, my tipple of choice, and we got chatting.

As we talked, we were surprised that we hadn’t met
there before, given we were both there every weekend with our friends. But fate
obviously didn’t allow it until then.

It wasn’t all plain sailing, as we had to wait until
March before we saw each other again in Wright’s once more and we eventually
got together officially in May 2005.

That wasn’t the end of our Wright’s days though. A
little over a year later I threw Robin a surprise party for his 25th birthday
and when we got engaged in February 2007, we had another celebration in the VIP
area for all our friends and family.

That was just one of the memorable nights we’ve spent
at the Café Bar, from Halloween, to St Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s nights to
Bank Holiday Sundays, football matches and live bands, it’s fair to say we’ve
had our fair share of Wright nights.

We even joked that we’d stop in for a drink on our
wedding day – the car did drive through Main Street on the way to the hotel,
but that was as close as we got.

Our celebrations have continued there and one of the
best days we had was when my whole family got together for my Granny’s 75th
birthday in Wright’s.

The staff, that day as on all our days, made us feel
more than welcome as the song goes, sometimes you really do have to go where
everybody knows your name.

And we’re also laying claim to having the first
Wright’s baby – our two-year-old son Bobby has also become a regular, although
that’s more during the day for lunch or for Sunday dinner, rather than
clubbing.

If it wasn’t for one night in Wright’s all those years
ago we may not have even met. We have Wright’s to thank for bringing us
together in what has turned out to be a love story with my very own Mr Wright.

And we’re looking forward to joining in the
celebrations this weekend and Bobby’s only got another 16 years until we can
book his 18th there!
