Temple Street nurse wins top award

CLARA Murtagh of Children’s University Hospital Temple
Street was last week declared as Nurse of the Year at the 2011 SMA Nutrition
maternity & infant Awards.

Clara was honoured for her deep commitment to the
profession and for the quality of patient care she has provided as a paediatric
nurse at the Northside hospital over the last 10 years.

During her time at Temple Street, Clara has moved
swiftly up the career ladder, most recently being appointed to manage St
Gabriel’s Ward, an acute 14-bed surgical ward.

Mona Baker, acting chief executive at Temple Street,
said that throughout her time at the hospital, Clara’s dedication and
enthusiasm has been exemplary.

“Her empathy and compassion are key components in the
delivery of a holistic family-centred approach,

? stated Ms Baker.

“Clara has shown huge levels of commitment, insight,
flexibility, innovation and willingness to deliver the highest standard of
patient care.

Finbarr and Mary Sheehan, parents of one of Clara’s
patients, are hugely impressed and appreciative of Clara’s work at the
hospital.

“Clara created an immediate bond with Mark, a bond
which grows stronger every day,

? they said.

“The attitude of a leader is contagious and this is
certainly true of Clara’s leadership style.

“Her team radiates confidence and compassion despite
some of the heart wrenching cases that they face.
