Work to begin on Beaumont psychiatric unit

WORK on a new
psychiatric acute unit at Beaumont Hospital is expected to commence next month.
Minister for
Health and Dublin North TD, Dr James Reilly, was responding to a question asked
in the Dáil by CaoimhghÃn Ã? Caoláin TD (SF).
Minister Reilly
said a contract has been awarded for the construction of the unit at the
hospital.
“Prior to actual
construction works on the unit itself it is necessary to undertake a number of
preliminary works to prepare the site,
? he stated.
“These are
expected to commence by the end of October and the construction of the new unit
is planned to be commenced by December and completed by early 2013.
Donaghmede ward
councillor MÃcheál Mac Donncha (SF) has welcomed the news.
“It is long
overdue and essential,
? he stated.
“The
psychiatric unit at Beaumont has been promised from the day the hospital opened
in the 1980s.
