New research shows public confidence in Government housing plan at all time low, says Ó Broin

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Housing, Eoin Ó Broin TD, has said that the Glenveagh – Red C research published today shows that public confidence in the Governments housing plan is “at an all time low.”

The polling data shows that only 16% of people surveyed believed that real progress was being made in tackling the housing crisis.

The number slumped to just 11% among 18-24 year olds.

“Today Glenveagh released their Homebuilding Horizons 2026 Report.  Included in their research was a Red C polling report on public attitudes to a range of housing issues,” Deputy O’Broin said.

“The standout figure was that just 16% of people surveyed believed that real progress was being made in addressing the state’s housing challenges.

“The number slumps to just 11% among 18 to 24 year olds.

“The Glenveagh – Red C research shows that public confidence in the Government’s housing plan is at an all time low.

“The Government’s failure to ensure an adequate delivery of genuinely affordable homes has lead to real frustration, particularly among young people.

“The research also shows a strong appetite for real policy change, both to accelerate supply and to increase affordability.

“The Glenveagh report details 40 policy recommendations, some of which would make a positive contribution to addressing both the supply and affordability crisis.

However, in Sinn Féin’s considered view, the other recommendations would actually make the crisis worse, locking in perpetual unaffordability.

“As always Sinn Féin will engage constructively with the report and have sought a meeting with Glenveagh to discuss the detail of their findings and recommendations.”
