Lord Mayor takes to the streets to help clean the city

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daryl Barron, has this week taken to the streets of Dublin to help clean the city and says he plans to do this more often during his term of office. 

He joined Dublin City Council waste management and cleansing staff on a night-time shift in the city-centre to see at first-hand how they operate.

The Lord Mayor has 3 priorities for his year in office, and one of those is ‘A Safer and Cleaner Capital’.

The Lord Mayor said: “It’s important for me as Lord Mayor to get out of the Mansion House, walk the streets, and see for myself how our city lives and breathes. I was delighted to join staff from waste management on the night-time shift during the week. I want to commend the work they do. I can see how dedicated and proud of their city that they are. They are doing great work and I want to make sure they have everything they need to do their job.”

Dublin City Council introduced a 3-pillar waste strategy in September 2024 to improve waste management, which included operational enhancements, increased enforcement and awareness/prevention initiatives.
