Cape Verde captured the imagination of football fans across the globe with a series of memorable performances, defying expectations to enjoy a historic run in the tournament before their journey finally came to an end against Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
Back home, the excitement was just as strong.
Throughout the competition, the people of Crumlin proudly followed Pico’s progress, with the local community rallying behind one of their own as he represented Cape Verde on the world stage.
For many young footballers growing up in the area, Pico’s achievements have shown just how far hard work, determination and belief can take you.
Although Cape Verde’s World Cup adventure has come to an end, the reception waiting for Pico at Dublin Airport showed just how much his incredible journey has meant to the people back home.
Welcome home, Pico.
