Russian strike hits children’s hospital in Kherson

Dublin People Group is collaborating with the Ukrainian Center for International Communications Cideips to provide information regarding ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine.

A children’s hospital filled with young patients, parents and staff came under Russian artillery fire in Kherson, Ukraine this morning, leaving a nine-year-old girl and four others injured.

The attack struck the hospital in the Dnipro district of the city at around 9.20am, according to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Artillery fire hit while people were inside, damaging the hospital buildings and surrounding infrastructure.

According to preliminary reports, five people were injured.

Among them are three hospital employees and a nine-year-old girl.

The child suffered a mine-blast injury and a shrapnel wound to her lower leg.

The medical staff sustained blast injuries and wounds of varying severity.

All of the injured received the necessary medical care.

Emergency services are working to eliminate the consequences of the strike and assess the full extent of the damage caused to the hospital.

The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the hospital was occupied at the time of the attack, with children, parents and medical personnel all inside when the artillery struck.

Hospital buildings and infrastructure were damaged during the attack, leaving debris scattered across the area.

Medical personnel who were injured in the blast were treated for their wounds, which ranged in severity.

The nine-year-old girl who was among the injured suffered a mine-blast injury and a shrapnel wound to her lower leg.

She received medical attention following the attack, along with the injured members of staff.

Emergency services remain on site, continuing their work to deal with the aftermath of the shelling and to secure the damaged hospital facilities.
