Radio DJ Niall Boylan will be running for Independent Ireland in June’s European elections.

The Classic Hits radio presenter says he “aims to give a voice to those who have felt ignored, while offering a fresh perspective and an opportunity to reshape Dublin’s future for the better.”

“Our recent referenda have proven that we can reclaim our power and demand change,” says Niall Boylan. “We don’t have to accept the failures of the current government or vote as we are told. It’s time for a renewed focus on delivering what the people of Dublin truly need.”

Independent Ireland Leader Michael Collins said, “we could not have found a better person to run in Dublin for our party, Niall has his finger firmly on the pulse on how the people of Dublin feel at any given moment in time and he feels it is time to step forward and give the people he speaks to every day a real voice.”

Boylan’s nightly radio show on Classic Hits will be off the air while Boylan is running for election, in keeping with broadcasting regulations.

“It is expected that the station will now commence a recruitment process to find a new host for the show,” a statement from Classic Hits read.

CEO Kevin Branigan said, “as one of the largest commercial radio stations in the country, we have a responsibility to be fair to all candidates and, for that reason, it has been decided that Niall will stand down as presenter of Nighttime Talk on Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio with immediate effect, I’d like to wish Niall all the very best.”

Independent Ireland has 3 sitting TDs in the Dáil and has secured 10 defections from independent and Fianna Fáil councillors since forming last November.

In the Midlands North West constituency, former RTÉ journalist Ciaran Mullooly will be the party’s candidate for Europe.

The Dublin ballot paper is now expected to have around 20 candidates on the ballot in June, with 4 seats up for grabs.
