The families of the 48 victims of the Stardust Disaster will today hear the verdict of the jury in the Stardust fire inquest.

Yesterday, the jury announced that they had reached their verdict, and it will be delivered from 2pm today at the Dublin Coroner’s Court.

Following their announcement, the coroner, Dr Myra Cullinane told the jury members she would be deferring the announcement of the verdicts until today.

This was to allow family members of the victims to attend the court or watch online and also for certain administrative procedures to be carried out.

The current inquest, which began last year, has been the longest held in the history of the state.

The 12 jurors have been deliberating for 11 days on all the evidence in connection with the fire in the Stardust nightclub on February 14, 1981 when 48 young people were killed and more than 200 were injured
