Uisce Éireann is working in partnership with Dublin City Council to work on the water supply in Clontarf, which may cause disruption to residents in the area.

The project involves the replacement of over six kilometres of old, cast iron water mains which have been prone to bursts causing outages and supply disruptions as well as precious, treated water lost into the ground.

Works have progressed well and water services crews will be ready to begin permanent road reinstatement in the coming weeks, a spokesperson said.

“Whilst every effort has been made to minimise the impact of the works, a temporary disruption to supply will be necessary for short periods between 9am and 2pm on Sunday 12 February.

“During these times, customers in the following areas will be impacted by intermittent outages and/or low pressure: Vernon Avenue, Vernon Park, Seafield Road East, Castilla Park, Oakley Park, Vernon Heath, Dollymount (Grove, Avenue and Park), North Bull Island, Sybil Hill and surrounding areas in Dublin 3.

“It typically takes take two to three hours for normal water supply to return to all customers as water refills the network.”

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Speaking about the works, Matthew Thomson, Uisce Éireann said: “We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and working in partnership with Dublin City Council we will make every effort to minimise any disruption that these necessary works may cause.

“The delivery of these essential works will help to safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses in the area ensuring a safer, more sustainable water supply.”
