The management of Go-Ahead Ireland has agreed to attend conciliation talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) following an overwhelming vote for industrial action by SIPTU members employed by the private bus operator in a dispute over pay.

SIPTU Organiser, Fran McDonnell, said: “SIPTU representatives conducted a ballot for industrial action of our members employed by Go-Ahead Ireland on Tuesday, 20th December.

“This vote was required due to the refusal of management to engage through the normal agreed process in talks concerning an increase in pay for our members to take account of the impact of the cost of living crisis.

“In the ballot, an overwhelming majority voted for industrial action if management continued to refuse to engage on the issue of pay.”

“This welcome change of direction by the company is clearly in response to the resolute determination shown by our members to take collective action to further their reasonable request to alleviate the impact of the cost-of-living crisis through a pay increase,” McDonnell said.

“We now expect to attend WRC talks in January.

“We hope we can then work constructively with the company to achieve a resolution to this dispute which will benefit our members and the long-term future of the enterprise.”
