The Irish Professional Photographers and Videographers Association (IPPVA) held its Annual Gala yesterday evening in the Clontarf Castle Hotel with the event culminating in the announcement of the winners of the IPPVA Professional Photographer and Videographer of the Year Awards 2022.

Dublin based duo, Eoin Healy, and Suzann Aherne (Hitched Films), were named as the overall IPPVA Professional Videographers of the Year 2022.

The judges were impressed with the level of talent shown in their work, which stood apart for its impact, creativity, and technical excellence.

Eoin and Suzann were also named as Wedding Videographers of the Year 2022.

Taking home the overall IPPVA Professional Photographer of the Year 2022 award was Lidi Lima Conlon.

Lidi, from Kilcock in Kildare, specialises in newborn baby photography and is known for creating beautiful and timeless fine art images of new babies at her state-of-the-art photography studio.

She also retained the title of Newborn Photographer of the Year 2022, having previously won it in 2021.

There was success for Lidi’s husband too as Gareth Lima Conlon was announced as the overall IPPVA Wedding Photographer of the Year 2022, having won that award previously in 2018 and 2021.

Through his pictures, Gareth documents the story of each wedding in a set of images which are as striking as they are beautiful.

Dun Laoghaire based photographer, Enda Cavanagh (pictured above), was highly commended on the night, taking home the Architectural Photographer of the Year award, as well as achieving the Single Highest Scoring Image overall.

This comes as no surprise, since with 16 years of experience in architectural photography, this allows Enda to quickly realise the vision of his client’s creative teams.

Lucy Nuzum (pictured above) based in Stoneybatter, and Dun Laoghaire won the Creative Wedding Photography category for her ability to capture the moment and enable her clients to travel back through time via imagery.

Westmeath’s Noel McIntyre was presented with the Commercial Videographer of the Year award.

McIntyre is the award-winning filmmaker behind Motion Picture Media, and founder of the Mullingar International Film Festival.

Camila Lee’s striking image of toddler transfixed on a Covid ad on TV received the Chairpersons Award.

The awards, sponsored by Bermingham Cameras and Canon, were presented in person after a year of virtual activity, with the judging panel consisting of professional photographers and videographers from all sectors of the industry from wedding to commercial, fine art to landscape, portraiture to press.

Over three heats, judges looked at over 900 images and over 50 videos in online judging sessions that were recorded for IPPVA members, before shortlisted finalists were assessed by an international panel of professional image makers to determine the category and overall winners.

There were 18 awards presented on the night.

An IPPVA award is a mark of excellence for any individual piece of work or body of work which means that all of the IPPVA award winners at last night’s ceremony have produced imagery that meets the highest standards within the industry.

Speaking about the event, Johanna King, President of the Association, said: “Once again, and across all categories, IPPVA photographers and videographers have raised the bar to a really high level.

Tonight’s winners – and indeed all finalists – should be proud and celebrate the hard work and expertise that went into every single one of these photographs and videos.”

Set up in 1949, The Irish Professional Photographers & Videographers Association (IPPVA) is a non-profit association committed to promoting excellence in photography and videography and providing a support network for professional image makers in Ireland.

The Irish Professional Photographer and Videographer of the Year Awards is the main event of the IPPVA calendar.
