Yesterday afternoon a DSPCA Inspector was called to a green area in the Ballyboden part of South Dublin where a cat’s body had been dumped.

The cat, a tabby and white female, had been decapitated and the head was not found at the scene.

This is the second case of a mutilated animal in Dublin in less than a week.

The DSPCA and Rathfarnham Gardai are investigating and are calling on anyone who saw something suspicious or who may have any CCTV footage to contact Rathfarnham Garda Station as soon as possible.

‘This is the second case of a decapitated pet in Dublin in just four days,’ a spokesperson for the DSPCA said.

“We are working with the Gardai in both cases and really need the public’s help in finding the persons responsible.

“Please contact Rathfarnham Gardai (01) 666 6500.”

Earlier this week, the decapitated body of a large bull terrier dog was discovered in the Clondalkin area.

The DSPCA and gardaí at Clondalkin Garda Station are investigating.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station on (01) 666 7600.

Gillian Bird, Head of Education and Media at the DSPCA, is available for an interview on the subject.
