Reilly says 2022 council budget doesn’t offer anything new for citizens

Independent councillor for Finglas Noeleen Reilly says she is disappointed the agreed Dublin City Council budget for 2022 doesn’t offer anything new for citizens.

Speaking after last night’s council meeting, Reilly said that it was a “Government-led budget.

“Not implementing cuts is nothing to be worried about.

“We should be here on budget night offering the citizens of this city a whole range of services especially after the last two years that they had,” Reilly says.

“Questions people ask is why can’t we get that pothole fixed? Where is my motor tax going?

“I’m waiting ten years to get a footpath outside my home repaired, where is my property tax going?

“The single answer is the Government take it and leave local authorities with pennies and answering why none of these things are happening.

“To leave us on budget night without even telling us how much they are giving us in grants is unprofessional and shows the disdain they have for local authorities.

“Sad when you think so many ministers were councillors first.

“I will be supporting this budget because I don’t really see any value in voting against it. It is not a Budget that unfortunately Dublin City Councillors have much control over”
