Dublin Bus has announced it will be reducing some of its services by 20 percent from next Monday, citing a reduction in demand for its services during the pandemic.

Go-Ahead Ireland will also reduce their timetables from January 25.

While frequency of busses will be reduced, routes will still remain operational between the regular hours.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) said in a statement: “The revised schedules reflect reduced demand levels under the current Covid restrictions and will ensure service continuity and resilience for essential workers and carers who must travel,”

The NTA has said that passenger numbers are down by 80% compared to the same time last year.

Dublin Bus says that it will be operating an “enhanced Saturday schedule” on weekdays with both Nitelink and Airlink not running until further notice.

Dublin Bus has said that they will be operating on an “enhanced Saturday schedule” on weekdays.

The NTA says that despite the reduction in services, buses will be still be able to comply with the 25 percent maximum capacity requirement during level five restrictions.

“NTA and the transport operators are confident that the level five requirement to operate each service at 25% passenger capacity will continue to be met under the new timetables.”

Public transport was first reduced during the first wave of restrictions in April last year, and services were restored to normal operations in June.

The NTA says the new timetables are in line with timetables from April 2019.

There are currently no changes planned to any Bus Éireann route, and Go-Ahead commuter services along the Kildare corridor will remain unchanged.

Peak Luas services are also scheduled to be reduced while Iarnrod Éireann has already implemented a revised timetable.
