Fianna Fáil TDs and Senators representing Dublin have appealed to members of the public and families to plan alternative Halloween activities this weekend.

Halloween trick or treating activities between households will not be possible this year, but alternate ways to participate in Halloween celebrations in a safe space is possible.

The group said: “We understand that this year has been extremely testing for the whole country and this second phase of lockdown is not easy. Halloween is a special time of the year for children and we know that many will be asking why they can’t go door to door for the annual trick or treat.

“We are urging the public to be a superhero this Halloween and stay home and help stop the spread of Covid-19. Families can plan their own small Halloween celebration at home in their own household and play traditional games.

“Fire and Rescue Services have warned the public bonfires and fireworks are illegal and should be avoided this Halloween but we need to realise that this year is more important than ever not to gather in large groups in our collected efforts to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“With many organised events cancelled because of Covid-19, there are fears that unregulated gatherings will be held. We as a group alongside the fire services and gardaí are appealing to people to avoid bonfires and fireworks this Halloween.

“We all have a role to play here this weekend and we would appeal to anyone who sees large groups in areas for bonfires to report these incidents to the fire services to make sure we all stay safe this Halloween and continue to try and reduce the COVID-19 cases,” concluded the group.
