With over 215,000 cancer survivors living in Ireland today, Purple House Cancer Support is asking individuals, schools, shops, clubs and businesses to help to support families living with cancer, by holding a coffee morning, a Pancake Tuesday event, or by sending a special Purple House caring bear to someone on Valentines Day.

The demand for Purple House’s cancer services is rising daily, and in particular their child & family services.

At the launch of the appeal were Alanna and Jack Traynor from Dublin.

Alanna said: “Purple House has helped me greatly in dealing with my dad’s cancer diagnosis.

“At first I was very lost and upset but since joining Purple House I grew to understand and accept it.

“They also helped me deal with my emotions regarding the situation as I didn’t know what to do.

“It also helped that I made loads of new friends at their teen group.

“I love going to Purple House as everyone is so friendly and supportive it’s all like one big family.”

Jack had this to say for any young person affected by Cancer: “Go to Purple House, it will help you to calm down , de-stress , and let go of all emotions.”

Jack and Alanna’s mum Stacey added: “We started as patrons, we continued as family, without the support and kindness from all at Purple House we wouldn’t have survived our cancer journey.

“The services our children received have made a nightmare situation livable and have helped us smile again.

“We ask you all to support Purple Heart Day as without charities like Purple House families would go through this darkness without the glimmer of rainbows that Purple House gives.”

In 2023, Purple House supported 766 families impacted by cancer from all along the east coast of Ireland.

The primary goal of Purple House Cancer Support is to enhance the quality of life for those affected by cancer through various services and programmes.

They offer emotional support, counselling & psychotherapy, practical assistance, hospital transport, support groups,  bereavement programmes, wellness programmes and complementary therapies to help individuals cope with the challenges associated with cancer.
