This October, Down Syndrome Ireland invites you to join them in celebrating Down Syndrome Awareness Month, a time dedicated to promoting acceptance, inclusion, and recognising the remarkable abilities of individuals with Down syndrome.

People with Down syndrome have dreams, goals, and aspirations akin to their peers.

This October, Sown Syndrome Ireland’s focus turns to the vital importance of Adult Education in empowering individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential.

As they transition into adulthood, the possibilities and are boundless.

Research underscores the transformative impact of accessible and inclusive education on adults with intellectual disabilities.

It fosters ongoing skill development, enabling people to attain their highest level of independence.

Explore Your Options in Adult Education

Down Syndrome Ireland collaborates with Education and Training Boards (ETBs) and various educational institutions to provide a diverse range of courses and training programs, including adult literacy, numeracy, digital skills and beyond.

The commitment of our educators and members to adult and further education has yielded outstanding results, with many participants successfully entering the workforce and excelling in various industries.

Sarah Flynn [pictured above], a member of our Roscommon Branch, has pursued adult education courses in literacy, technology and radio.

She has not only secured employment but also hosts her own radio program on Our Voice FM.

“I like learning new things and really enjoyed my adult education courses.

“Working part-time in the library and café helps me learn more and earn money.

“Hosting my own radio show brings me so much joy because I love music.”

This October, Down Syndrome Ireland invites people seeking guidance on adult education to connect with their committed Adult Education Team.
