Padraig Conlon 10 Oct 2022

The Red Line Festival kicks off this week on October 13th – 16th with over 40 events in fascinating performance venues including Rathfarnham Castle, Pearse Museum and Baldonnel Aerodrome as well as the Civic and branch libraries across South Dublin County.

From Tractor dates and daring debuts to Puca Puppets and from sporting icons and Irish legends of the Premiership to a trip to the dark side with a chilling new Crime and Horror strand, the Red Line Festival is a celebration of all things literary be it spoken, written, sung, played, illustrated, or even just thought!

The Red Line Festival is produced by South Dublin Libraries and Arts at South Dublin County Council offering a programme of events and workshops that appeals to people of all ages and interests, from children to adults, casual readers to bookworms with events in six different strands As Gaeilge, Literary, Sport & Wellbeing, Music & Performance, Crime & Horror and Family.

The festival will feature wonderful authors such as Louise O’Neill, Michael Harding, Donal Ryan and Emilie Pine,  the FAI’s Gareth Maher and George Hamilton on 30 Years of Irish Footballers in the Premier League and festival Writer in Residence,  Clondalkin rapper Selló.

History, heritage and the Irish language feature throughout the festival.

Dean Ruxton discusses his book Death on Ireland’s Eye and Rebecca Brownlie brings her Abandoned Ireland exhibition to the County Library, highlighting the social importance of our forgotten buildings.

Colmán Ó Raghallaigh, Dr. Kelly Fitzgerald, Micheál Ó Conghaile and Réaltán Ní Leannáin will take part in the As Gaeilge strand.

Red Line Festival is also delighted to work with NOISE Music DJ Programme and ‘Give Us The Night’ providing opportunities for young people to learn how to DJ and develop their musical knowledge.

The poetry programme will take the limelight when award winning poet Jessica Traynor announcing the winners of the Red Line Poetry Competition.

A Sunday visit to Tallaght Stadium will find Jonathan Wilson discussing his biography of Bobby and Jack Charlton, best-selling children’s author Ger Siggins on his Rugby Spirit series and Siobhán Doyle on The History of GAA in 100 objects.
