Alan Betson of the Irish Times was awarded the trophy with his portfolio praised by the judges for its huge versatility.

This was the fourth occasion that the Meath resident has won the prestigious title now in its 46th year.

Commenting ahead of the opening reception event at the Dun Laoghaire Lexicon, David Branigan, President of the Press Photographers Association of Ireland, said: “The Dun Laoghaire Lexicon has been a stalwart supporter of our exhibition tour and we are grateful to the whole team at the library that it is once again on display at this landmark venue.

“We hope that visitors from the local area and beyond will enjoy browsing through the award-winning and highly acclaimed imagery which demonstrates the hard work and commitment of our Irish press photographers.”
