135,000 people visited Warhol exhibit in Hugh Lane

Dublin City Council have announced that 135,000 people visited the Andy Warhol: Three Times Out exhibit that ran in the Hugh Lane Gallery from October to January.

The exhibition took place from October 6th to January 28th and was both the largest Warhol exhibition ever in Ireland and the first of its kind in 25 years.

Visitors came from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Europe, the USA & the rest of the world to see the prestigious exhibition which featured over 250 works from the iconic artist.

People who visited the exhibit were treated to a wide variety of Warhol’s work, from his landmark pop art paintings to his experiments in audiovisual techniques.

The gallery said that an average of 1,500 visitors attended the gallery each day, and free entry on Wednesday mornings proved to be a big attraction with +6,500 visitors availing of this offer.

The gallery said that over 450 guided tours and 13,000 participants from community outreach programs including artist-led workshops, talks and schools programs attended the exhibit.

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daithí de Róiste said he was “thrilled” with the success of the exhibit.

“The Warhol exhibition brought a great buzz to the city over the winter, attracting both domestic and international visitors to Dublin.”

“Dublin City Council and the team at Hugh Lane Gallery deserve great praise for the achievement of producing such a prestigious and exciting exhibition for our city.”

According to Barbara Dawson, director of Hugh Lane Gallery, and co-curator of the exhibition the exhibition “contributed to Dublin’s global cultural reputation.”
